High Impact Tutoring

Reimagine Now partners with school districts and other educational institutions to develop and implement 21st century strategic project designs centered on Research, Partnerships, and Expansion and to improve students’ access to educational opportunity and advantage. In the past year, Reimagine Now delivered over 780,000 minutes of high-impact tutoring to students in grades 3 - 8. Effective Tutors

MATHEMATICS

In Mathematics, the curriculum for the Tutoring Block incorporates high quality instructional content that emphasizes the Major Work of the grade. For example, Numbers in Base Ten and Operations and Algebraic Thinking in grades 3, 4, 5 and Ratios & Proportions, Number Systems, and Equations and Expressions in grades 6, 7, 8.  The progression of content/topics have been carefully sequenced and include both prerequisite, foundational, and on-grade content (see sample below).

ELA

In ELA, reading, writing, speaking, and listening materials support reading comprehension, building knowledge and vocabulary and writing to understand. The Reading Comprehension materials support the 3 shifts within the Common Core and place specific emphasis on Complex Text and Academic Language to support complexity. In the middle grades, prompts have been designed to accompany the readings and give students the opportunity to write to support claims using valid reasoning and relevant evidence (Argumentative), to examine and convey complex ideas and information clearly (Explanatory) and to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective techniques and descriptive details (Narrative).

High Quality Content

Data is used to consistently monitor student progress and evaluate the overall impact of the intervention program.

September
Diagnostic I data will be used to establish a growth baseline for all students and to determine relative grade level proficiency

December
Mini Topic Assessment 1 data will be used to monitor students’ progress

February
Diagnostic II data will be used to track growth and adjust curriculum

March/April
Mini Topic Assessments 2 & 3 data will be used to monitor progress

In addition to the Diagnostics and Mini Assessments, the District’s Interim/Baseline Assessments will also serve as a means of monitoring student progress towards meeting grade level standards. Both assessment systems follow and align to the NJSLA’s performance levels.

Within Tutoring Progress/Scoring/ & Grading
Tutors provide constructive content-specific feedback verbally and written on student’s work.
