Systemic Change
Since partnering with Dr. Tina Powell at the end of the 2023–2024 school year, Plainfield Public Schools has experienced a significant shift in how we approach mathematics instruction and data-driven decision-making. Dr. Powell’s expertise in curriculum design and assessment development has supported the creation of comprehensive curriculum maps for Grades 3 through Algebra 1, strategically prioritizing 150 days of instruction aligned to NJSLA expectations.
Through her partnership, we developed a cohesive interim assessment system directly aligned with the curriculum, enabling ongoing progress monitoring throughout the school year.
Dr. Powell also established structured district data protocols, empowering teachers to analyze student performance, identify trends, and create targeted instructional action plans. This work has shifted our district from simply reviewing data to actively using it. Teachers now engage in meaningful data analysis, develop targeted action plans, and make real-time instructional adjustments that directly impact student learning.
The results have been clear: measurable growth in NJSLA Mathematics performance across all grades 3–8 and a stronger, more coherent system of teaching and learning districtwide. Dr. Powell’s partnership is not just supportive; it is a driving force behind systemic change. She has built our capacity to lead with data, align with purpose, and accelerate student achievement at scale.
Impact!!!
Working with Dr. Tina Powell over the past two years has been instrumental in strengthening mathematics instruction across our school. Through her partnership, our teachers deepened their content knowledge and refined their instructional practices, particularly in the areas of purposeful, standards-aligned planning and data-informed instruction. This shift in practice has led to more rigorous, student-centered classrooms where scholars are consistently engaging in high-quality mathematical thinking.
The impact of her work is evident in our student outcomes. On the 2025 NJSLA, our Grade 6 math proficiency reached 51%, exceeding the state average of 40%, while Grade 8 achieved 47% proficiency. These gains reflect not only improved performance but also a stronger foundation in mathematical reasoning and problem-solving across grade levels.
What sets Dr. Powell apart is her ability to balance deep expertise with authentic partnership. She built the capacity of our teachers while holding a clear vision for excellence, ensuring that improvements in practice translated into measurable results for scholars. Her contributions have had a lasting impact on our instructional program, and she has been a critical partner in our continued growth.

Collaboration!!!
Dr. Tina Powell, through her company Reimagine Now, made a meaningful and lasting impact on student achievement at College Achieve Public Schools (CAPS) Paterson Ellison Middle School. As a trusted thought partner, Dr. Powell worked closely with Math teachers to strengthen instructional planning, deepen standards alignment, and ensure that daily lessons were intentionally connected to the rigor and expectations of the NJSLA. Her guidance helped teachers sharpen their focus on priority standards, anticipate student misconceptions, and deliver instruction that was both targeted and effective.
Equally important was Dr. Powell’s collaborative work with the school’s administrative team in designing and refining small-group Math instruction leading up to the NJSLA. Through thoughtful planning, strategic grouping, and a shared commitment to data-driven support, she helped build systems that responded directly to student needs. As a result of her partnership, expertise, and leadership, Dr. Powell played an integral role in helping CAPS Paterson Ellison Middle School outperform the New Jersey state Math average for two consecutive years. Her contribution reflects the power of strong instructional partnership, strategic planning, and unwavering belief in student success.

Strategic Planning
Dr. Powell's partnership through her human-centered approach was instrumental in strengthening our Intervention guidelines. Her guidance, expertise, and strategic perspective helped us move from a fragmented approach to a focused and intentional tiered system designed to move students forward. With her help, we designed and created an Interventions Handbook, keeping students at its heart, which supports staff to remain intentional & focused. Dr. Powell was the perfect partner in supporting us with the arduous task of improving student literacy interventions. We cannot wait to see the strides students make with our improved Intervention system, thanks to Dr. Powell!
